History

The Perini Navi Group bought the Picchiotti Shipyard in the early nineties and quickly learned their best traditional qualities and experience.
In 2007 the historic Picchiotti name, backed by the Perini Navi Group’s expertise, was reintroduced as a brand under which a new series of motor yachts, called Vitruvius®, is produced in collaboration between Vitruvius Ltd, Philippe Briand and the Perini Navi Group.

Picchiotti is a historic Italian shipyard that was founded in 1600 at Limite sull'Arno. They later moved to Viareggio where they became part of the backbone of Italian shipbuilding. They produced all kinds of ships, from small wooden sailing boats, to steel battleships for the Italian an other national Navies and even speedboats.

The shipyard was also at the forefront in the production of leisure motorboats. Famous boats produced by Picchiotti are the 15 mt Esperia built in 1905 and the 36.50 mt Kon Tiki built in 1947. Picchiotti was the first shipyard to built motor cruisers in series. Famous Picchiotti models are the 10 mt Giglio series, the 14.5 mt Giannutri series, and the Gorgona, Giraglia and Mistral series.

On June 16, 2010 the Perini Navi Group formally decided to move all of their motor yacht production to the Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia (a yard that used to be called Beconcini). Now all of their sailing yacht construction is concentrated at the Perini Navi shipyard in Viareggio, while all of their motor yacht production takes place at the Picchiotti shipyard in La Spezia.
